Rent-A-Center provides $5,000 donation to unsuspecting nonprofit
PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun. 13, 2013--
Friendly House, a Portland-based nonprofit, today received a $5,000
donation from Rent-A-Center. The donation is tied to a philanthropic
initiative dubbed Random Acts of Caring. Launched in 2008, the
initiative provides unexpected donations of merchandise and funding to
deserving nonprofits across the country.
Rent-A-Center representatives traveled to Portland ostensibly to tour
the facility. Following the tour, Friendly House was presented with an
unexpected check for $5,000. The funds will be allocated to provide
Friendly House’s children with access to digital resources and
educational support.
“We thank Rent-A-Center for helping us acquire the technology we need to
help meet the needs of the children we serve,” said Megan Jolly,
development director for Friendly House.
Since its establishment in 1930, Friendly House has dedicated itself to
creating a safe and welcoming environment for members of the Portland
community. From its academic after-school program for children to its
wide range of classes and workshops for senior citizens, Friendly House

“This marks our 92nd Random Act of Caring, and we’re ecstatic
to award Friendly House with this donation,” said Nicole Pope, public
affairs coordinator for Rent-A-Center. “They have created such a
remarkable atmosphere for their community, and we wanted to highlight
their efforts.”
