KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct 05, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Rent-A-Center today donated $20,000 to Harvesters Community Food Network. The Kansas City, Missouri food bank is one of eleven food banks across the nation sharing in $250,000 worth of Rent-A-Center funding for hunger relief this year.

The donation is in addition to the recent hunger-relief initiative staged across Rent-A-Center's 3,000-plus stores. Dubbed "Soup to Nuts," this campaign took place in September in support of Hunger Action Month. It saw Rent-A-Center stores serve as collection points for cans of soup, jars of peanut butter and other canned goods. The donated food products were delivered to hunger-relief partners such as senior centers, homeless shelters, daycare centers and churches.

"We are grateful for this donation," said Karen Haren, president and CEO of Harvesters--The Community Food Network. "We are now able to provide an additional 100,000 meals to those in need in our community. This is so significant during this time when the need for food is so great."

"In challenging economic times, it is especially gratifying to support the communities we serve," said Mitch Fadel, president and COO of Rent-A-Center and a board member of the North Texas Food Bank.
